VISIT TO BLACKTOWN GIRLS
On August 8th we had the pleasure of hosting a day with Casey Onus as she spoke to us about the cotton industry and her life as an agronomist:
Casey Onus grew up in Tamworth, NSW and is the oldest of 6 children. As her father was an agronomist she was taken on many drives where she watched and waited for him. Despite this, she never saw herself being an agronomist as she viewed the job as boring since she only ever experienced it from a child's perspective. Once Casey was old enough to consider career opportunities, she got her first job as a pizza maker at Eagle Boy's Pizza. Realising that the retail industry wasn't for her, she sought after a job at a farm which was advertised in the newspaper. She got her first agricultural job at a farm, bug checking in her school holidays. After that she went through a variety of agricultural jobs including, working with the irrigation and cotton picking. This aroused her interest in the cotton industry and she began her journey to where she is today. This year is her 4th year as an agronomist and she has achieved a lot, gaining new experiences along the way. Currently, she still has her very first client and because of her skills she has been able to gain her client's neighbour and her client's neighbour's neighbour as clients. As confusing as it sounds she has been sought after by many farmers showing that despite her young age she is still able to become a successful agronomist.

Meeting Our Champion - Casey Onus!
Her visit was informative and her presentation helped us understand what young farmers do to promote agriculture in our community. Here are some comments from our Archibull team:
